Hospice of Hillsdale County

How Hospice of Hillsdale County is Different and What Sets Us Apart

Hospice is not a place, but a special kind of health care for patients who have a life limiting disease.  Hospice can begin when a patient's choice changes from treatment to comfort.  The goal of hospice care is to offer patients the ability to enjoy the time they have and create meaningful memories.  As pain and other distressing symptoms are managed, patients can focus on quality of life with comfort and peace.  Independence is always encouraged.  Hospice services can be provided wherever the patient calls home, allowing family and friends to visit freely.  Beyond physical relief, hospice strives to help patients and families find emotional and spiritual comfort during a very traumatic time.  Instruction and support is provided to family and loved ones in their role as caregivers.  Hospice volunteers are important team members providing joy, laughter and a listening ear.  Grief support for the patient and family starts when hospice care begins and continues after death.

Hospice of Hillsdale County is an independent non-profit hospice program licensed and certified by the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Bureau of Community Health Systems.  Hospice of Hillsdale County provides a specialized interdisciplinary team approach consisting of the patient's physician, hospice medical director, a registered nurse case manager, a licensed social worker, a certified hospice aide, a licensed counselor, clergy and a trained volunteer.  A physician order is required to begin and continue hospice care.
